In this Advent season of reflection, I'm finding myself in an unexpected place - back in my eighth grade confirmation classroom.

The teacher was explaining about the forgiveness of sins, using imagery. She invited us to think of every sin as a nail in a wall, and Christ as the Carpenter who pries out those nails. The sins might be gone, she said, but not the holes/wounds that they create.
