Visible Addresses Required On Homes?

Summary

Question: Is there a state or city ordinance that a home has to have house numbers that can be seen from the street? Driving around the city, I'm surprised by the number of homes that don't have house numbers or have house numbers that aren't visible from the street. I would think having these house numbers would be very helpful for all emergency calls and delivery people.

Answer: Officials with the Dubuque Fire and Building Services Departments say property owners need to ensure that their property's street address is properly marked on their building and is visible from the street. The International Building Code, International Fire Code and U.S. Postal Code require that new and existing buildings have approved address numbers, building numbers or building identification placed in a position that is plainly legible and visible from the street or road that is in front of the property.
