University Settles with Nurse Fired Over Players' Records

DES MOINES - A nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics who allegedly accessed a university football player's confidential medical records has been allowed to resign rather than be fired, according to a settlement between the university and the nurse.

A legal agreement made public Monday shows officials settled a union grievance filed by licensed practical nurse Judy Martin by changing her firing to a voluntary resignation, which allows her to apply for unemployment benefits. The Gazette of Cedar Rapids first reported the deal.
