BELLE PLAINE, Minn. - For Dave Woestehoff, the surge in soybean prices couldn't have come at a better time.

Six months after pests and drought devastated his crops, the Belle Plaine farmer sold 40 percent of his harvest for about $8.50 per bushel in February - up to $3 higher than recent years. Woestehoff turned a profit when he had expected to lose money on every acre of soybeans he farmed.
