CAIRO (AP) - Southern Illinois University wants another month to respond to the U.S. Justice Department's demand that the school end minority fellowships federal officials call discriminatory, its chancellor said Wednesday.

A letter sent by the Justice Department last week demands SIU discontinue the three graduate fellowship programs by Friday or face a lawsuit.
