CHICAGO - The judge at former Gov. George Ryan's racketeering and fraud trial said Wednesday that jurors' "personal difficulties" have been interfering with their efforts to reach a verdict and she plans to send a note encouraging them to keep on with their work.

U.S. District Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer told attorneys and reporters that she had received two notes in the last several days outlining problems in the jury room but added that she didn't want to disclose the details of those difficulties before there is a verdict.
