Rubashkin Seeks Change of Venue

Summary

Former Agriprocessors manager Sholom Rubashkin is asking that his trial be moved from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, claiming pretrial publicity paints him as "the mastermind behind all the bad that befell Agriprocessors employees " and the town of Postville," according to a motion filed in federal court Thursday.

Rubashkin, who recently was released on bond from the Dubuque County Jail, faces a multicount federal indictment charging bank fraud, harboring illegal immigrants and money laundering, among other counts related to his management of the kosher slaughterhouse in Postville. Agriprocessors was the site of an immigration raid in May that led to nearly 400 arrests.
