Summary


When my wife and I sold our house in Dubuque and moved to San Rafael, Calif., we knew two things. One, we would rent rather than buy (the average home price in Marin County is $1.75 million). And two, we would be much closer to my wife's mother, sister and family, as well as our daughter, her husband and our 3-year-old granddaughter. Our son, living in Seattle, also would be much closer.
