Summary
Chances are that there are few who lamented seeing the year 2008 come to an end. Seeing the New Year in could at least inspire minimal optimism that 2009 would begin the slow climb to better things.
Some things about New Year's Eve circa 1950 and the year 2008-09 are much the same. Others bear slight resemblance to how the celebration of that evening was configured in East Dubuque. One thing that was the same then and now was the unpredictable weather. It could be 10 below zero and blustery or a balmy 30 degrees.
