Flood of 1965: The Mississippi River crested at record 26.81 (flood stage is 17 feet). Caused $10 million in damage. 561 people in Dubuque were displaced and 157 in East Dubuque, Ill. One death in Prairie du Chien, Wis. - a 3-year-old boy fell into a flooded coal bin.
Flood of 1993: Mississippi crested at 24.1 feet on June 30 (7 feet above flood stage.) On July 5, in East Dubuque, after 7 inches of rain fell in 24 hours, floodwaters pushed though sandbags piled atop a drainage ditch and flooded into town. 450 people were forced to leave their homes. Traffic on the river was halted for weeks - the first time in 20 years. Estimated $1.7 million in damage in Dubuque County.See the full content of this document
