Public to Vote On Merger of School Districts

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - The board of the Mississippi Bend Area Education Association voted unanimously Wednesday evening to allow the issue of merging Jackson County's Preston and East Central school districts to go to a public vote, although state education officials previously called such an action "inappropriate."

With more than 400 people in attendance, The AEA board met at the Ohnward Center in Maquoketa to consider a parent-driven petition calling for the merger of the two districts. (East Central serves the communities of Miles and Sabula, as well as a small portion of Clinton County.)
