EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. - The Rev. Donald Wagener lived selflessly and touched many lives. Hundreds of people who knew and loved him came to say good-bye and Godspeed Monday in the church where he said his first Mass only six months earlier.
Wagener, 49, died Saturday at his mother's Dubuque home, where he had lived since being incapacitated with a brain tumor. His funeral is at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in East Dubuque. Bishop Thomas Doran, who ordained him in October, will lead the service. The diocese obtained special permission from the Vatican to ordain Wagener early because of his illness.See the full content of this document
