Ian Coppersmith and Adam Ruesch felt something special every time they visited Dubuque last season, and they wanted to be a part of it.

Coppersmith and Ruesch skated last season in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League for their hometown St. Louis Lightning, so they witnessed first-hand Dubuque's "7th-Man" advantage. Both forwards felt flattered when coach Joe Coombs invited them to join the ThunderBirds in their transition to the Central States Hockey League this season.
