HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) - The 100-year-old Grape View Farm and its popular "U-Pick" vineyard west of this Chicago suburb are safe from housing developers, thanks to an elderly neighbor with very deep pockets.

Robert LeRoy, 80, who farms and raises horses on 77 acres next to the farm and vineyard, submitted the high bid Saturday at the auction for the 15-acre tract once owned by his late neighbor, Florence Mae Jones.
