In the spring of 2010, East Dubuque High School was awarded a $2,099.77 grant from the Dubuque Racing Association/Mystique Casino. As a result of this grant, the school was able to purchase mechanical stages and document cameras for the Science Department.

The mechanical stages have greatly enhanced the capacity of the school's microscopes. One of the most challenging problems of using a microscope is properly centering a specimen. At 400 or 1000 magnification, the image of a specimen can be lost if the slide is moved more than a fraction of a millimeter. With the mechanical stages, live specimens can be easily located and followed as they move through the slide.
