Summary


In the days before the assault on Dubuque County Attorney Ralph Potter, Michael Mayton talked about a plan to seriously injure Potter if the jury returned a guilty verdict, according to court documents.

Mayton, 41, was charged Friday with felony willful injury in connection with the attack on Potter that occurred after a jury found Mayton guilty of second-degree murder for the August 2009 stabbing death of his friend, 38-year-old David Tate. Mayton faces up to 10 years in prison on the charge, in addition to the maximum of 50 years in prison he could receive for the murder conviction.
