Back in December, I was asked by Sue Schmitz, of Zwingle, Iowa, if I knew anything about growing a garden from a chunk of coal.

I wrote that it was a little out of my element, but that I'd sneak in the request anyway. After all, the word "garden" implies food, doesn't it?
