TRIPOLI, Libya - Moammar Gadhafi's loyalists appeared to have strengthened their grip on the Libyan capital Monday while the chaos roiled much of the country and spilled over its borders in a wave of frightened refugees.
An uprising centered in the country's eastern half has driven Libya toward civil war. Opponents of Gadhafi who have seized control of eastern cities claim to be inching closer to the key northwest corridor from Tripoli to the Tunisian border.
