DES MOINES (AP) - Two state lawmakers announced Tuesday they plan to introduce a bill that would ban smoking in public places.

Sen. Matt McCoy and Rep. Janet Petersen, both D-Des Moines, conceded that the bill would have little chance of passing, but said they want to begin a serious debate on tobacco use.
