The Multicultural Family Center, McGraw-Hill, city of Dubuque, the NAACP and African American Museum of Iowa will host the 2011 Juneteenth Celebration from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at Comiskey Park, 24th and Jackson streets.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the U.S. On June 19, 1865, the last African- American slaves in Texas were told that slavery had ended and they were free. Today, Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom and the achievement of African-Americans.See the full content of this document
