Judge: Jensen to Remain Free During Appeal

MADISON (AP) - Former Assembly Speaker Scott Jensen can remain free on bail while he appeals his conviction for misconduct in office, a judge ruled on Monday, giving him one more chance to avoid time in prison.

Dane County Circuit Court Judge Steven Ebert's ruling means Jensen will not have to report to prison on July 15 to begin serving a 15-month sentence. Instead, the Waukesha Republican will remain free on $10,000 bail while his defense team appeals the guilty verdict on three felonies and one misdemeanor that a jury returned after a trial in March.
