Summary


The Blizzard of 2011 dumped 13 inches of snow on Dubuque, the biggest snowstorm in more than a decade, and the 10.6 inches of snow that fell during the 24 hours of Tuesday marked the seventh-highest one-day total in the city's history. The storm closed tri-state area schools, businesses and roads.

Dubuque County authorities spent Wednesday morning retrieving motorists stranded in drifts. Although the snow showers had ended by sunrise, strong winds continued to plague rural roads.
