Aid Worker Illuminates Afghans' Plight; Many Problems Await Refugees Returning Home From Iran

While the rest of the world is caught up in other crises, the people of Afghanistan hope they have not been forgotten, according to a Minnesota woman who worked there.

Mary Kalil, 47, of St. Louis Park, Minn., spoke to several groups of women and a college class Monday and Tuesday at the request of her friend, Kathleen Weber, of Dubuque. Kalil, a social worker, was asked by the Geneva-based International Catholic Migration Commission to head a refugee program in Afghanistan from August through December. She had previously worked with refugees in Minnesota and in Kosovo.
