With a new federal secretary of education comes new hope for special- education students who are suffering unintended consequences of No Child Left Behind.
The federal law requires students to make continued improvement, as gauged by performance on standardized tests. Talk to educators or parents of students with special needs, and they will tell you a standardized test, administered to all students regardless of ability, is not an accurate way to judge special-ed students. Their progress and potential for living a successful life is based on many factors, few of which can be measured by standardized tests.See the full content of this document
