Volleyball in Dubuque is a city-wide passion played with fervor.

Ron Jacobsmeier, who has three sports-inclined daughters of his own, applauds and admires the volleyball success Dubuque has enjoyed over the past decade. But he can't help but wonder why his hometown, flush with athletic ability, can't enjoy the same success in basketball.

"It's tough to watch because we have tons of talent in Dubuque," Jacobsmeier said.
