The Nov. 5 TH editorial "Judicial vote bad for the long term" was worth consideration, and I agree that the vote sets a bad precedent for the long term.

However, consider the headline in the same paper on Page 10A: "Gronstal: I'll block gay-marriage vote." Did it occur to the TH that, with that attitude in the legislative leadership, the citizens of Iowa opposed to gay marriage really had no other choice in the Nov. 2 election but to send a message via the judicial-retention vote that they do not approve of gay marriage in Iowa?
