BELLEVUE, Iowa - Motorists in Bellevue are getting a mini- preview of what life will be like after half the town's railroad crossings are eliminated later this year.
City officials had to close three of the city's 15 open crossings on Friday after drivers reported damage to them. It appears that frost upheavals last week pushed large wooden crossing timbers out of the ground. Passing trains caught the planks, ripping some up and splintering others, creating a driving hazard.
