WASHINGTON (AP) - The economic toll of Hurricane Katrina - including higher oil prices - will be a prominent topic when finance officials from the world's rich countries meet this week.

One of the messages the United States plans to convey is that the "U.S. economy is well positioned to deal with the shock of Hurricane Katrina," said Tim Adams, the Treasury Department's undersecretary for international affairs. The hit to overall economic growth "will be noticeable but short-lived," Adams said Wednesday.
