Court Rejects Medicaid Plan

DES MOINES - The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has rejected Iowa's plan to offer brand-name medicines to Medicaid patients when it can get them at a lower price through government rebates.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, or CMS, insisted the state must consider the initial payment to pharmacies, not the cost after rebates. In a ruling Wednesday, the court agreed.
