MAQUOKETA, Iowa - The atmosphere was bittersweet Friday night at the Jackson County Fairgrounds where hundreds of firefighters and emergency workers were gathered six weeks after together they battled a raging fire that devastated part of Maquoketa's downtown business district.
Rep. Tom Schueller, D-Maquoketa, said it best. "We're thankful that this is not a memorial service tonight - it's an appreciation banquet - but your heart goes out to the people who lost their businesses.
