EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. - The organizers of the 1854 Grand Excursion surely could not have envisioned anything like East Dubuque's 2004 Grand Excursion celebration.

As they did during the original Excursion, steamboats cruised up the Mississippi River past East Dubuque, known in 1854 as Dunleith. But 150 years later, automobiles joined the official celebration, driving over a bridge that was not there in 1854.
