JOHNSTON - Iowa House Speaker Kraig Paulsen said legislative bargainers this week began narrowing their differences over the state budget, but the process is moving slowly and a quick agreement isn't likely.

"I think we made some progress this week," said Paulsen, a Hiawatha Republican. "Obviously, the pace is going to need to quicken at some point, but right now we're getting some of those larger pieces and having those discussions. I think we are moving down the road."
