Ron Mueller expects to collect his Social Security checks when he reaches the age of eligibility - in nine years. The Bellevue, Iowa, man is fairly confident the entitlement program he's paid into for two-thirds of his life will still be there when he's eligible to draw from the trust fund.

"(Politicians) have been talking about changing it for so long, but I don't see them making any significant changes by then," said Mueller, a 56-year-old executive at American Trust & Savings Bank in Dubuque.
