JOLIET, Ill. - Drew Peterson tried to pay someone $25,000 to kill his third wife because he thought he'd be financially ruined by a pending divorce settlement, but killed her himself months later, prosecutors said Friday.

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow made the allegation at a hearing over Peterson's $20 million bond. Glasgow said he revealed the new details to emphasize why he believes the suburban ex-cop wanted Kathleen Savio dead, how dangerous he remains and why he might disappear if released.
