WASHINGTON (AP) - A nearly broke program that has helped thousands of small and medium-sized manufacturing businesses save jobs and become profitable could get an injection of new money after seeing its budget slashed this year.

For 16 years, the Manufacturing Extension Partnership has assisted manufacturers with training staff, obtaining certifications, developing marketing strategies and designing products.
