Quinn Signs $31 Billion Capital Construction Bill
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a long-awaited capital construction bill into law Monday, July 13, paving the way for new jobs while retaining over 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! will infuse the state economy with a much- needed $31 billion spending package.

Barland Featured Organist Aug. 5
The Aug. 5 Summer Organ Concert Recital at Sinsinawa Mound will feature local musician Charles Barland. The free concerts are offered every Wednesday at 7 p.m. throughout August. Guest musicians perform on the Casavant pipe organ in Queen of the Rosary Chapel.
Public Invited to Turner Hall Dance
The Ballroom by Jennifer Dance Studio, owned and operated by Jennifer Mulcahey of Galena, will be hosting a public ballroom dance at Galena's Turner Hall on Sunday, July 26. The dance, which will run from 6 until 9 p.m., will be preceded by a free one-hour lesson at 5 p.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend this semi-formal event.

Exhibit On Display at Apple River Fort Focuses On Sac and Fox Tribes
A touring exhibit on the heritage of the Sac and Fox tribes of Native Americans is on display through Aug. 16 at Apple River Fort State Historic Site in Elizabeth. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Missouri Humanities Council, the exhibit is part of a larger project undertaken by the Missouri Humanities Council to increase knowledge of Missouri's Native American history and will include future exhibits on the Osage, Shawnee and Delaware peoples.

Potential Riders Can Sign Petition for Amtrak Service
The Northwest Illinois Blackhawk Express, formed by civic leaders from Belvidere, Rockford, Freeport, Galena and Dubuque, have announced a new campaign to urge local residents and business leaders to push for the proposed Amtrak line from Chicago through Rockford to Dubuque. The group is collecting signatures and plans to send speakers to community groups to rally support. Merchants Represented at Semi-Pro All-Star Game
The East Dubuque Merchants had the week off. The Sunday, July 5 game against Balltown was canceled. The Telegraph Herald Semi-Pro All-Star Game Saturday, July 11 saw the Eastern Iowa Hawkeye League defeat the Prairie League, 9-7, in eight innings. Ben Kuebel was 2-for-3, Scott Vaassen went 1-for-1 and Bill Albee was held hitless in three at-bats.
Mohawk Softball Back in Action After Holiday Break
The Menominee Mohawks softball teams resumed action after the July 4th holiday break. The 5th/6th grade girls lost to Cuba City, in Cuba City, Wis., on July 9, 8-7, dropping their overall record on the season to 10-2. The Cubans scored twice in the bottom of the last inning to pull out the victory. Taylor Wubben crushed a three-run home run to right- center field for the Mohawks early in the game.

Richgruber Receives U.S. Marine Corps Commission
Christopher Alan Richgruber, son of John and Rosa Richgruber of East Dubuque, graduated from OCS and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps on Dec. 12, 2008. He graduated from TBS on July 2, 2009. Richgruber will be stationed in Pensacola, Fla., attending Marine Aviation Flight School.

Dragon Boat Races to Be Held Sept. 12-13
The Dubuque Dragon Boat Association will be hosting the 22nd annual Dragon Boat Races Sept. 12-13 at Miller Riverview Park. The Dragon Boat Festival focuses on individuals learning about diverse cultures as well as the association of Asian culture with Dragon Boat Racing.
