Stout-Braised Short Ribs Recipe
Ribs improve in flavor when braised, especially when done a day or so in advance. To do ahead, cook as directed, then cool the ribs completely, uncovered. Once cool, cover and refrigerate. To serve, reheat the ribs, covered, in a 350 F oven for 1-1 1/2 hours. Serve these short ribs with buttered egg noodles tossed with chopped fresh parsley, or mashed potatoes or rice.

Madison Group Helps 2 Area Wisconsin Schools
The Madison (Wis.) Downtown Optimist Club has donated 638 hats, mittens, scarves, socks and underwear to numerous schools and programs, including Iowa-Grant Elementary School in Livingston and Boscobel Elementary School in Boscobel. Known as the Mitts for Kits program, the club collected donations of these winter items from its members.

Question: Why are there no Salvation Army kettles and bell ringers at Target? I have seen them everywhere else but there. Answer: Target is not the only major retailer that doesn't allow Salvation Army bell ringers and their kettles at its storefronts.

Robbery Suspect Stayed in Teller's Home
One of the bank tellers who was robbed while filling a US Bank ATM on Thursday lived with one of the robbery suspects, according to court documents. Travis A. Strowbridge, 23, no permanent address, and Michael B. Holton, 22, of 1275 Bluff St., were arrested on charges of second- degree robbery after Kentucky authorities took them into custody on unrelated warrants. Strowbridge also was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle without the owner's consent.
Concealed Weapons Could Yield a Better Outcome

The father and son accused of robbing Knicker's Saloon earlier this month have pleaded not guilty. Eddie Chest, 71, and Eddie Adams, 46, pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of attempted murder, first-degree robbery and unauthorized possession of an offensive weapon.
